HIV Awareness

Challenges

HIV/AIDS remains a significant public health concern in many parts of Cameroon, particularly among young people. Limited access to accurate information, low awareness of prevention methods, and persistent stigma continue to contribute to new infections and hinder early diagnosis and treatment.

In many communities, discussions around sexual health remain sensitive, leaving young people without the knowledge and tools needed to make informed decisions. This increases vulnerability to HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), as well as challenges related to mother-to-child transmission.

Our Response

The HIV Awareness Project focuses on prevention, education, and community engagement to reduce the spread of HIV and support affected individuals. We work closely with communities to promote accurate information, encourage responsible behavior, and reduce stigma associated with the disease.

A key component of our approach is the training of peer educators, who play an important role in sharing knowledge and influencing positive behavioral change within their communities. Through targeted outreach, we aim to create safe spaces for dialogue, learning, and support.

what we do

Awareness & Education Campaigns

We organise workshops and sensitisation sessions in schools, youth clubs, health centers, and workplaces to educate communities on HIV prevention, testing, and care.

Prevention & Resource Distribution

Our outreach activities include the distribution of condoms and informational materials to support prevention and encourage safe practices.

Peer Educator Training

We train young leaders and community members as peer educators, equipping them with the skills to share knowledge and promote healthy behaviors.

Stigma Reduction & Community Support

We promote open dialogue to reduce stigma, support affected individuals, and raise awareness about prevention of mother-to-child transmission.

Through the HIV Awareness Project, communities gain access to vital information, prevention tools, and support systems that help reduce new infections and improve quality of life. By empowering individuals with knowledge and addressing stigma, we contribute to building healthier, more informed, and more resilient communities.
