Dental Hygiene Project

Challenges

Poor dental hygiene remains a common health challenge among children and youth in many communities in Cameroon. Limited awareness about proper oral care, combined with high consumption of sugary foods, often leads to early tooth decay, infections, and even tooth loss at a young age.

In addition, financial constraints prevent some families from accessing basic hygiene tools such as toothbrushes and toothpaste, further increasing the risk of dental problems.

Our Response

The Dental Hygiene Project was created to promote oral health and preventive care among children and young people. Through community-based initiatives, we focus on raising awareness, improving hygiene practices, and ensuring access to basic dental care tools.

Our approach combines education with practical action, helping children understand the importance of oral hygiene while equipping them with the resources needed to maintain healthy teeth

what we do

Oral Health Education

We educate children and youth on proper dental hygiene practices, including brushing techniques and the importance of maintaining a healthy mouth.

Tooth Brushing Campaigns

We provide toothbrushes and basic hygiene materials to children who may not have access to them due to financial limitations.

Tooth Brushing Campaigns

We organise regular outreach activities in schools and communities where children participate in guided brushing sessions.

Screening & Future Health Initiatives

We aim to expand our work through dental screening campaigns and the development of a small health clinic to improve access to care.

Through the Dental Hygiene Project, children gain the knowledge and tools needed to maintain healthy teeth and prevent long-term dental problems. By promoting early awareness and access to basic care, we are helping build healthier habits and improving overall well-being. Our goal is to expand these efforts and ensure that every child has the opportunity to grow up with a healthy smile.

I didn’t know how important it was to take care of my teeth until this program. Now I brush properly every day and even teach my younger siblings.

These small awareness sessions are creating long-term habits that will improve children’s health for years to come. The impact is bigger than it seems.

When children feel confident about their health and appearance, it reflects in their learning and behaviour. This project truly supports their overall well-being.
