Fair Champions

Challenges

Many young people today have limited awareness of how everyday consumption choices—such as clothing and footwear—impact the environment, global resources, and the lives of workers in production countries. Complex topics like fair trade, sustainability, and responsible consumption are often not presented in ways that are engaging or accessible to students.

As a result, there is a growing need to equip young learners with the knowledge and critical thinking skills required to make informed and responsible choices in an increasingly interconnected world.

Our Response

Fair Champions is a global learning and educational initiative designed to inspire and empower students to adopt more conscious and sustainable lifestyles. Since 2015, the project has been implemented in primary and secondary schools in Berlin, where trained facilitators work closely with students through interactive workshops.

Using creative and participatory methods such as videos, quizzes, discussions, and games, students explore the lifecycle of everyday products like t-shirts and shoes—from raw materials to finished goods. The project highlights the connections between consumer behavior in Germany and its social and environmental impacts worldwide, fostering a deeper sense of global responsibility.

what we do

Interactive Learning Workshops

We deliver engaging school workshops using videos, games, and discussions to explore sustainability, fair trade, and responsible consumption.

Creative & Practical Experiences

Through themed sewing workshops and hands-on activities, students design and produce their own sustainable t-shirts while expressing social messages.

Understanding Global Supply Chains

Students discover the journey of textiles and leather goods, examining how production impacts people, resources, and the environment worldwide.

Training & Experiential Learning

We organise training sessions for educators and facilitators in the fair trade field, as well as sustainable field trips that connect classroom learning with real-world experiences.

Through Fair Champions, students gain practical knowledge, creative skills, and a deeper understanding of global connections between consumption, production, and sustainability. The project empowers them to think critically, act responsibly, and become informed ambassadors for fair trade and more sustainable lifestyles.

Before participating in this program, I never really thought about where my clothes come from or how my choices affect others. Now I understand the impact of consumption, and I feel more responsible for the decisions I make every day
