OPEN POSITION: Trainer for school project in Berlin

Job description 

From the 19 September 2022 "Bridging Cultures- 4 voices from the South, multiplying the seeds of change" will be held in secondary schools in Berlin. After the successful implementation of the project from 2010 – 2021, and on the request of many teachers, we have decided to organize this intercultural workshop also this year. The two-day workshops are divided into several lessons, and deal with themes of the SDGs and key socio-political issues in the Global South - Africa, Asia and Latin & Central America. 


This year special themes to be discussed in the various schools during the workshops and programme are: 

  • Poverty 

  • Health and wellbeing 

  • Quality education 

  • Gender equality 

  • Water and sanitation  

  • Responsible consumption and production 

  • Peace, justice and strong institutions 

  • Environmental protection 

 

Trainers from global south’s countries teach in English, discuss and develop together with the students, solutions for the problems facing their continents and country. In addition, the students develop innovative and creative ideas for projects and events to raise awareness in Germany.  

 

Additional to the workshops that will take place in schools, an open public cooking evening, “Spoon4Change”, will be organize with the trainers for culture exchange with Berlin’s public. 

 

Objectives of Bridging Cultures: 

  1. Raising awareness for the UN Sustainable Development Goals, global relations and developmental problems 

  1. Promoting their own social skills and commitment 

  1. Development of intercultural relations 

  1. Elimination of prejudice and racism  

  1. Improving the English language of students 

 

Target group: 

  • Pupils and students between 16 and 20 years of secondary schools in Berlin 

  • Adults, open public in Berlin (cooking event) 

 

Work: 

The trainer will attend an orientation week upon arriving in Berlin to guide them with the conditions and procedure.  The first training session will start in schools on 4 October 2022, with the second session scheduled for 16 January 2023.  A working timetable will be presented to the trainer. 

The trainer will work with schools following the timetable and on workdays when not in school, the trainer will dedicate their working hours to work with the Hope Foundation at the head office to improve or adjust their class preparation. 

Additionally, the trainer will plan and prepare a cooking evening event.   

 

Vacancy & Timeframes of the workshops: 

2 trainers, 1st round: 19 September till 16 December 2022 

2 trainers, 2nd round: 3 January till 31 March 2023 

 

Requirements 

  • From Asia, Africa or Latin America 

  • Excellent English skills 

  • Very good knowledge about home country and continent 

  • Very good knowledge about the themes of globalisation, SDGs as well as key political issues 

  • Pleasant and friendly manner & a team player  

  • Open-minded, flexible, disciplined and with training /teaching experience 

  • Desirable:  experience with various training methods (including virtual, in-person training, and blended offering) and up-to-date with new training methods and techniques. 

  • Special requirement for the first training round: applicants who live in Berlin or can move to Berlin immediately, as the final recruitment step and acceptances take place in mid/late August.   

 

Working:  15 hours per week: 

including 5 workshops in schools + 1 workshop “Spoon4change” á 4 h, Preparation and review of the workshops and material, evaluation and reporting of the project 

 

Compensation: 770€ / month *The amount depends on the funding commitments from the sponsors.
