Christine Lettl & Julia Pfalzer (Austria) 23rd August -20th September 2010

Christine and Julia recently graduated from high school they both decided to use their summer holidays to travel to Cameroon to assist Hope Foundation with its projects as volunteers. Motivated by an intercultural and development workshop which was held in their school with Hope Foundation’s founder, both girls took on the challenging trip to work for 4 weeks with orphans in a private orphanage in Limbe, South West of Cameroon.

During this time, these dynamic ladies lived partly with a host family and the orphanage where they had direct contact with the children. Work entailed teaching the kids subject like English, Mathematics, Geography, German language and History. These kids had the opportunity to know a number of things about Europe. Other duties included cleaning, games and constant moral support.

“…It was really fascinating to see how interested the kids have been. They really wanted to learn something from us. We also played a lot with the smaller ones and looked after them… we loved to work and live with them, and all of us were very sad, when we had to leave. All in all it was a wonderful experience, as well as the travelling. We saw a lot of different places in Cameroon and experienced the differences of the cultures.” Christine Lettl
