After several hugely successful implementations of the Bridging Cultures project and due to a high level of interest and demand from primary schools in Berlin, we are happy to announce our new project Fair Champions.
The project will start with a two day workshop, which will take place at one of five different primary schools across Berlin respectively. During this workshop, pupils from one class between grades 4 and 6 will learn about the global supply chain of textiles and about the living and working conditions of textile workers and farmers. These issues will be illustrated with specific case examples. In a self-reflexive and creative atmosphere, the issue of fair trade in the textile industry will be discussed and the children will learn about the role of global connections and the consequences of their personal courses of action.
Each child will then design their own t-shirt and present it at a fashion show, together with the pupils from all six schools at the end of the project. This project is due to be implemented in June 2015 and will take place at the Sachsenwald, Kurt-Tucholski, Pettenkofer, Wedding and Papageno primary schools. The idea behind the project is that Germany, as the soccer world champion, should be aware about where and under what working conditions the jerseys for the 2014 World Cup were produced – Germany should not only be the world champion, but also a Fair Champion.
