Barefoot for Africa for the fourth time at Yaam in Berlin

26. August 2013

Once again the event "Barefoot for Africa" collects shoes and donations for Cameroon

On 8th September 2013, our shoe recycling event "Barefoot for Africa" will once again take place at YAAM next to Ostbahnhof in Berlin. It starts at 12 PM and will last late into the night. The event is an appeal for donations, especially for the donation of shoes. There are many people living in the rural areas of Cameroon who don’t have shoes and run the risk of foot injuries and getting infections resulting from them.

Already in 2012 Barefoot for Africa attracted almost 1200 visitors. About 1000 pairs of shoes were collected!

Gerald Bobga Fonkenmun, director of Hope Foundation, said: "Following the successes of the previous years, we appeal for shoe and financial donations for the fourth time now to help improve the lives of the people in Cameroon. The event helps us to cover costs such as storage, transport and distribution of the shoes. We are very grateful for every donation.”

Well-known live performers like Berlinutz, Mighty Timeless, Missaeh, Kingsley Quainoo and Jah Rose will make up the stage program with reggae, rock, R&B and African music.

Hope Foundation will also use this event to present their latest project ‘Rising Education’: in cooperation with 15 architecture students from the Technical University Berlin, the construction of a school in the east of Cameroon is being planned and organised.

Besides the stage performances, visitors can again this year enjoy sports activities, delicious food and drinks, barefoot painting and a raffle with prizes. For our little visitors, we will have a children’s play area where stories will be told and they can have their faces painted. The event will finish off with an after-show party including some outstanding DJ sets (e.g. DJ Matar de Berlin, DJ Omso), as well as a big bonfire with sounds from African percussion.
