Education has proven to be the most effective tool and instrument in development programs to decrease mortality rates, increase health awareness and empower people to take charge of their destinies.
Education has also enabled millions of people in various communities to be more aware of things surrounding them and how they can deal with society and their lives!
In this regard, Hope Foundation in collaboration with 15 architecture students of the Technical University Berlin are working to design and build an elementary school, in the town of Bertoua, the eastern region of Cameroon.
The construction works will start in February 2014 and the school will be opened in September.
Hope Foundation is realizing one of the MDG (Millennium Development Goals), according to the base principle of providing universal primary education for each human being in the world, and permit to each child, to complete a full course of primary school.
This school in Cameroon has a twofold objectives: for first serve as a bilingual primary school, where up to 300 children will receive a basic education for six years, and secondly serve in the afternoon as a training centre where seminars and training courses for adults will be held.
The idea underlying this project comes from the ascertainment that Bertoua is one of the poorest region in Cameroon and there is need for good schools, training facilities to achieve better learning standards, in order to reach a better development. Education is the key that allows everyone to develop personal skills, thereby providing children with the opportunity to get a good education, get a job and has a better self-esteem.
This project is supposed to develop the concept of sustainable construction which involves direct participation of the local population of the region together with 15 students - architects, through which each member of the community can put his or her contribution, as an actor of the same collective goal.
Here both parties cane exchange knowhow and skills to serve the community.
Hope Foundation in collaboration with TU Berlin with the 15 students-architects will organise a number of activities and events, with the aim of rising funds.
